Description
"Warping The Future - How craft led to the digital world as we know it" is a digital exhibition that explores the connection between the history of weaving and the history of computing. This experience is part of an ongoing exploration on demystifying the complexity of both practices by honoring the tools, the innovations and the people behind them. Because of the extreme perishability or the intentional erasure that is present in much of women’s work, the narrative of this exhibition focuses on recognizing their decisive role in this story.

Biography
Born in 2017, Weaving X Coding is a collaboration between Francesca Rodriguez Sawaya and Renata Gaui, through which they explore the relationship between textiles and new technologies as a way to demystify both practices. For the last years these explorations have translated into numerous workshops, exhibitions and collaborations with other creatives on the intertwined history of weaving and computational thinking. As artists and designers, Renata and Francesca’s personal practice have been instigating the power of emerging technologies as tools of empowerment that can challenge narratives around female identities, culture and communities.
